University stands by Bollywood legend's rejection - ABC Online

An Australian university says it understands Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan's decision to turn down an honorary doctorate in protest of recent attacks on Indian students in Australia.

Bachchan, arguably India's biggest superstar, was to receive the honorary doctorate from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in July for his contribution to entertainment. "My conscience is profoundly unsettled at the moment and there seems to be a moral disjuncture between the suffering of these students and my own approbation," Bachchan wrote in a letter to QUT which he posted on his blog.
